Professor Julio Mayol is a surgeon, researcher, and healthcare innovator. He is a Professor of Surgery at the Complutense University of Madrid and Head of the General and Digestive Surgery Section at Hospital Clínico San Carlos. With extensive international experience, he trained at Hospital Clínico San Carlos and at Harvard Medical School’s Beth Israel Hospital and has held visiting professor positions at institutions such as Wayne State University and the University of Cincinnati.
Dr. Mayol has been a pioneer in digital health, artificial intelligence, and surgical innovation. He serves as Scientific Director of the San Carlos Health Research Institute (IdISSC) and worked as the Medical Director of Hospital Clínico San Carlos between 2016 and 2023. His research focuses on improving surgical outcomes, healthcare system efficiency, and the integration of new technologies in medicine.
A thought leader in healthcare transformation, he actively participates in global discussions on the future of surgery and patient-centered care. He has authored numerous scientific publications and contributes to international collaborations on value-based healthcare and digital transformation in medicine.
