Vivek Sood was appointed Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Axiata Group Berhad on 24 March 2023, after serving as Joint Acting GCEO since June 2022. Prior to this, he was Group Chief Financial Officer of Axiata from 2017.
As Group CEO, Vivek is responsible for driving Axiata’s portfolio strategy, business transformation, and value creation model. His role centres on strengthening Axiata’s culture, building stakeholder trust, and delivering sustainable returns for investors.
Before joining Axiata, Vivek held senior leadership roles across the telecommunications and insurance industries, including as Executive Vice President & Group Chief Marketing Officer of Telenor Group, CEO & CFO of Telenor India, CEO of Grameenphone in Bangladesh and Chief Operating Officer & CFO, Tata AIA Life Insurance (India).
He currently serves on the boards of Axiata’s listed and unlisted subsidiaries & investee companies bringing extensive experience in financial leadership, business transformation, and cross-cultural management. His expertise spans driving operational efficiency, leading digital transformation, portfolio restructuring and delivering value creation. Vivek’s global experience extends across Asian and European markets, leading multidisciplinary and multi-cultural teams.
Vivek holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the University of Delhi, India, and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1989. He completed his Accountancy and Audit Training at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
